Lake skeletons, a grim mystery of the Himalayas

Nobody knew of its existence until 1942, when an employee of the National Park of the Indian Himalayas discovered a huge number of human skeletons, 600, located around a glacial lake. The mystery is even greater as the first carbon dating showed that the remains dating from XII-XV, although there is an explanation about the origin of those people nor their death.

A European-Indian mixed team, under the aegis of National Geographic tried in past years to unravel the mystery that caused numerous discussions among scientists. And yet, secrets skeletons have only to widen. A new carbon dating showed that the actual age of the bones is at least 1,200 years, with over 3 centuries to the official estimate. Moreover, DNA tests have identified two categories of human physical totally different from each other little people and imposing stature of individuals (perhaps members of the royal family).

The first question that arises is related to the reasons why these people have got a hardly accessible area, situated at 5000 meters altitude (even today it takes at least 4 days of travel in extremely difficult conditions compared the nearest human settlement) away from any religious route ... a question that nobody could provide an answer as to how plausible. Another question is related to the causes of death of so many hundreds of individuals. Most skeletons shows traces of skull fractures that appear to be made of massive blunt objects. A possible explanation would be that which supports the idea of a cataclysm, possibly a scale avalanches that have surprised the whole human convoy. One hypothesis which explains partly why in the frigid waters of the lake were identified other bones, this time full.

It is certain that unraveling this mystery will take years, maybe decades. By then, however, will remain untouched remains secular around the lake Himalayan, Indian authorities taking the decision to not disturb the secret tomb.
