The Nazis tried to turn sand into gold.
According to a recently published historical works, the Nazis thought they could turn stones, sand and earth into gold. Heinrich Himmler, head of Hitler's SS treupelor would have been convinced by someone that precious metal could be obtained as to be subsequently sold to buy weapons and to strengthen him in the Third Reich.
As such, the Nazis set up a secret military unit in the Dachau concentration camp ahead of the World War II, designating him responsible for opeartiuni Karl Malchus, an alchemist who made Himmler to believe that can turn sand paraffin stones and even gold.
But it is possible that Malchus was working for British intelligence services in 1938, when Himmler tricked, according to Halm Werner, author of "The Alchemist Hitler's Secret Attempts to Manufacture Gold in Dachau." "I live in England until the early months of the year and return to Germany Himmler contacted on his unique talents, it is, of course, a huge bluff. Malchus got what he wanted, Himmler installing it in Dachau, not as a prisoner, but as a technician whose work can be conducted in secret. "
All those involved in research in Dachau were searched for gold lest he slip into the unit, which was later claim to have been gained through alchemical processes. But Malchus hid his gold balls in cigarettes, which present them to Himmler as the result of his experiments.
It took a few weeks before Nazi leader to realize that it was all faked. Malchaus was detained as a prisoner in Dachau for several months, and the release was threatened with death in case you ever talk to anyone about his relationship with SS chief. He tried an alchemical career in post-war Germany, but died in the early '50s, without knowing success.
